Bra Boys | Macario De Souza | Trailer

Macario was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1983 after his parents migrated from Brazil. He gained an interest in film at age 14 when he borrowed a Hi-8 camera from his sister. Two years later he bought his own mini-DV camera and started filming his mates surfing at Maroubra Beach. After graduating in 2001 from South Sydney High School, where he was school captain, he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (2004), majoring in time-based art, at the University of New South Wales' College of Fine Arts. His first film project, Ours, focused on his lifestyle pursuit of surfing. The short film won two awards (Mambo Snap Off The Lip Surf Film Festival 2004 and 2004 Youth Week Film Festival). The film won media praise and was later included in a Tracks surfing magazine DVD compilation. The following year he again won the Snap Off The Lip Surf Film Festival with follow-up short film, The Hard Way. He also won industry acclaim when he made his debut as director in the gritty short drama, Grommets. Macario's first feature-length film, Bra Boys, is the highest grossing documentary in Australian history. The film was edited in a bedroom of his modest family unit near Maroubra Beach, the home of the Bra Boys. His other credits in the film include co-director, cinematographer and sound designer, as well as producer of several tracks for the film's music score. Macario was subsequently engaged as Producer, Director and Editor in projects ranging from advertisements and TVCs for major companies within the international surf industry through to various television segments and programs. He runs his own video production, web design and graphics business, Mac Media Creations. His most recent project was as a Producer / Cinematographer on South Side Story, a six-part observational documentary on one of Australia's most famous Rugby League clubs in history, South Sydney Rabbitohs and the take over of their new owners Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes A Court.
